Meet Our Ugly

Connor Pierson from Kappa Sigma

What is an Ugly?

It might seem kind of hard to explain, but here's a quick and easy blip on what it means to be "Ugly" on the St. Norbert campus...

Every fraternity and male social group on campus has one female member, called their Queen. Likewise, every sorority and female social group on campus has one male member, called their Ugly. Each year, in the spring, every group "picks" a new Ugly/Queen for their group. The "Picking" process lasts a week and is a wonderful welcoming of these new members into each group, as well as a joining and coming together of all Social and Greek Orgs on campus.

Picking is a  long and thoughtful process. After all, it's inviting in a new member to your group, and is kind of a big deal at SNC. The new Ugly/Queen also helps to form a new bond between individual groups. For example, the Untouchables have picked Uglies from Delta Upsilon and Phi Delta Theta for the last several years and have created a unique bond of friendship and encouragement accordingly. Groups are by no means limited by this bond, and much group unity can be seen throughout the SNC community, but the Ugly/Queen bond is extra special and is a great way to connect with other groups.
